Italy: road safety activities focusing on children

Our company operating the Brescia Padua Toll Road, A4 Holding, Abertis and UNICEF Italy signed an agreement to improve road safety in the country, especially among school-age children.

The partnership agreement was signed in Rome on 18th January at the same time as the Picasso exhibition in the Italian capital city, sponsored by A4 Holding. The agreement offers greater legroom in the global partnership signed by UNICEF and Abertis in 2017.

The first result of this partnership was the Safe Island project launched during Tocatì, the International Festival of Street Games, sponsored by UNESCO and held in the historic centre of Verona from 13th to 16th September.  This involved raising awareness among children on different values of road safety. The Safe Island space was installed, a , a replica of the streets of a city with traffic signs, pedestrian crossing and roundabouts, etc., through which children can walk, ride a trike, a bike, a kid’s motorbike or car, etc., accompanied by an adult. Participants learned the meaning of the traffic signs, how to cross the road, where and where not to play and the importance of wearing a helmet and of fastening your seat belt. A4 Holding aims to take the Safe Island installation around different service areas of the roll road during the summer campaign. The idea is for it to be a family play and leisure area while resting on long holiday trips.

The innovative Mi aspettavo che…(I hoped that…) must also be underlined, which consists of a play followed by an interactive debate with students from the fourth and fifth year of primary school to raise awareness on different aspects of road safety. Awareness is to be raised on the situation that road traffic accidents are the main cause of death among young Italians aged between 15 and 24. The initiative is sponsored by the National Police Force and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The Abertis Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Plan establishes the involvement of the Group in the communities where it carries out its business.

The exhibition Miró: la experiencia de mirar” (Miró: the experience of looking)was held at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires (Argentina) from 25th November 2017 to 25th February 2018.

In the previous summary we indicated that the artist Joan Miró maintained a close link with the avant-garde scene in Paris from his youth until a ripe old age. The exhibition sponsored by Abertis at the Grand Palais enabled the Catalan painter to return to the French capital.

In February 1917, Europe was immersed in the 1st World War. Pablo Picasso was 36 years old then, but was already a great artist who had started the Cubism revolution.
